The careful considerations of each exegetical possibility make this a work that will be indispensable for all serious students of Ephesians. Every commentator stands on the shoulders of his predecessors; Hoehner’s shoulders are broad and strong and will sustain the weight of future scholars of Ephesians.

Hoehner gives us close to pages, which would appear to be overkill given the size of the letter itself. He centers his attention ephesins the meaning of the words hoehnfr their relationship to one another and on the grammar and structure of each sentence.

It is a mine of information and a theological feast all at once! This book is not directed towards lay-persons, unless a full understanding of Greek is present. The best commentary on Ephesians because of its extensive explanation of the text. Here Hoehner gives some good feedback although I would have pushed some of his thoughts a bit further, particularly regarding the extent to which Paul is borrowing the household structure from the Greco-Roman contextand allows us to see how these verses in context to Paul’s bigger picture goehner the mystery of God.
Hoehner has long been a professor of New Testament at Dallas Theological Seminary, so his dispensationalism shines through at certain points. The volume is well organized, clearly written, and very useful for in-depth study of the letter.
