Some of the author’s comments and observations may illustrxted uber-bold by say Rajaji’s standards and even provocative. I recommend this book to all who those who haven’t read mahabharata. Even non-Indians can get a good understanding of the epic through this book though the number of characters may simply overwhelm one and all.

Not being a scholar of either Indic literature or the Mahabharata, I will say no more on that topic, so on to Jaya. It is very easy to miss the forest for the trees when you embark upon this adventure called Mahabharata, so Pattanaik spells it out for you, and I believe there retellnig no harm in benefiting from his vast research.
Any attempt to retell the Epic without dealing with the Spiritual significance of the events, characters and portrayal is bound to fall far short of a faithful retelling.

The telling of stories intermingled with “blocks” I don’t know whether it was because of the Krishna’s adorable childhood antics, the myriad of heroic characters each with their own prowess, or because the unfortunate tale of the Pandava brothers struck a cord in pf heart.
